Let’s try to sum up this complex storyline, shall we? Evangeline makes a deal with Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, to stop her love from marrying her stepsister. But nothing goes according to plan, and now she owes Jacks three kisses (to other people). As he cashes in on her bargain, Evangeline realizes she is a tool in a mysterious master plan Jacks in brewing.

I wasn’t immediately hooked but I was so curious about what was going to happen with everyone and where the story was going to go. It’s not confusing but it is convoluted. There are so many characters, and spells, and secrets, and half truths. But it was easy enough to follow, you just have to pay attention.. 

Is it enemies to lovers between Evangeline and Jacks? Because the whole book he’s just toying with her and keeping secrets. Maybe the rest of the series defines the relationship a little more? But there was no romance in this one beyond a touch or a glance here and there. However, due to the slow building nature of their relationship, there were no contrived moments of romance, which I liked. Their relationship seems more natural. 

This book reads more like adventure and mystery than romance. But it intrigued me. I constantly kept reading, looking for answers and guessing what would come next. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. But will continue reading the series to see where it goes and hopefully get some romance!
