Beaufort Poker Club #6
By Maggie Gates
*Do not recommend reading as a standalone*
*The whole series leads up to this book; specifically Not in the Cards (Beaufort Poker Club #5) is a prelude to this one*
TheStory
After her fiance beats the ever loving hell out of her, Bridget winds up in the hospital. There she finds her life-long best friend, Chase, waiting by her hospital bed. After years of dancing around each other, Chase finally admits to Bridget that he is in love with her.
But Bridget is filled with shame, regret, and embarrassment over her choices and the situation she landed in. So, she refuses to accept Chase’s love. But Chase, with all the tenacity and care in the world, comes alongside Bridge and fights for her, when she can’t fight for herself.
TheReview
What a BEAUTIFUL ending to the series. My heart. It’s in tatters. And also very full. Chase and Bridge will live rent free in my head FOREVER. I’m utterly obsessed. It’s friends to lovers but the BEST kind. There is so much drama and feels and sparks and chills and… everything.
The story picks up from the cliffy in the last book. We get full insight into why Bridget did what she did (in this book and the last). It’s so heartbreaking to see the unworthiness Bridget feels because some twat waffle beat her within an inch of her sanity, and ultimately, her life. But our beloved Chase saddles right up beside her and helps her through the worst of everything.
It was nice seeing Chase be flawed in his attempts to help Bridget, given that in reality, it is such a hard situation to handle correctly every step of the way. Both him and Bridge had to work through the turmoil of trauma together. They didn’t always get it right and that felt so relatable.
Hands down the best book in the series. But to be fair, this has been the couple we were waiting for throughout the other five books. Each one of them had a piece of Chase and Bridget in them. So, we were already slowly falling in love with them. The wait for these two was so worth it. This book will be burned into my brain for the rest of time.
P.S. While most of these books can be read as standalones, this one cannot. At a minimum, Not in the Cards (Beaufort Poker Club #5) must be read before this one. But at best, I recommend reading all of them, for the best possible experience.
