A Strange Hymn

The Bargainer #2

By Laura Thalassa

TheStory

After being rescued from Karnon’s clutches, Callie and Des must deal with the changes she went through during her captivity. Believing that they have defeated the threat, the two begin training to strengthen Callie while still trying to figure out why the women still sleep and the men are still missing.

Callie and Des leave the Kingdom of Night to attend the annual Solstice celebration in the Kingdom of Flora, where they realize the threat is not actually gone and the nightmare is just beginning.

TheReview

Gotta be real, I basically forgot everything as soon as I finished the book. Except the very last 15% or so. It was a read through a book and the overarching storyline stuck, but any details? Straight out the window. Basically, Callie and Des train and they love each other. And that’s the jist. But once they get to the Solstice celebration, things do get interesting.

Everyone in the Kingdom of Flora is atrocious. Every horrible thing that could happen, does happen. While the first half of the book was not interesting at all, the second half was decent. And the ending was amazing.

I would have rated the book two stars if the first half vibes continued into the second half. But things switched up. The middle gets three stars and the ending gets five stars. Thus, a barely over three star rating - three stars since there isn’t a partial rating for that. So, take that as you will. But it does prep for a better next book, since the ending was so good.
