Seven of Hearts

By Maggie Gates

TheStory

At his sister’s wedding, Logan hooks up with his sister’s best friend, Leah. When they find out they’re pregnant, both of them get more than they bargained for from a one night stand that wasn't supposed to be anything more.

Logan had a methodical plan mapped out for his life - no mistakes before he’s 30. But when the pregnancy throws a wrench in his plans, he is the only one that can decide if it was really a mistake or if it was always meant to be.

TheReview

Honestly, this book was kind of boring. The end.

Just kidding. Let’s talk about it.

Logan is an utter moron. We get an explanation and then it makes sense but still… moron.

That being said, he is actually very vulnerable and his reactions and approach to things seems more like real life than a man who has it all together and does everything right immediately. But it takes until about half way to see any of that.

It’s not super adorable and enchanting. It’s more realistic. Logan makes some seriously dumb decisions. It’s not romanticized at all. Which, I get the point but it is fiction… at least make it realistic AND interesting.

Part of the missing excitement was all the areas where the drama opportunities went unfulfilled. There were so many scenes where I thought, “Oh, this is gonna be good.” And then they just fell flat.

The only drama bomb that peeked my interest was Cheryl showing up.

On a positive note, the ending was adorable. I did really like the ending. But Maggie Gates is a better writer than this.

Has anyone read Shane and Beth from What Saves Us? Because that was a good pregnancy trope story. Anyways, it is the LAST Maggie Gates book that I had left to read, and now I have read every single one. So, I can confidently say, it was not her best work and might be my least favorite of hers.
