TheStory
Author Whitney West, also known as pie shop owner Annie Smith, hires a bodyguard after a stalker starts threatening her. Throughout her book signing tour, her and Miles work to protect her - body and mind. TheReview
Surprisingly, it was Miles who had me thinking “wow, there really is someone for everyone.” I mean, it’s my own preference I guess, that has me wanting him to be a little more broody and broken… or at least MANLY. He is so bubbly and chatty, I just couldn’t get into him as an MC. The duck shorts? Come on, dude. You’re a body guard.
Although, I suppose he was perfect for Annie. She’s such a tiny ball of nerves and stress. So, Miles’ easygoing nature and free-wheeling attitude and affection fits her needs perfectly.
It’s not really a “slow burn.” It’s more like a normal romance with a little forced proximity thrown into the mix for good measure. I found the both of them to just be light and endearing, but not anything special.
Mostly, this is a heartwarming story about love, trust, and overcoming the biggest fears about yourself. There is a little third act horror but other than that, it is a light and romantic read. Not my favorite of Maggie Gates but still cute. I enjoyed it.
