TheStory
Aurora, also known as author Wander Whitlock, moves to a small town when she inherits her dead aunt’s house. Her plan is to fix it up, sell it, and use the money to move to a new place and start fresh. Next door to her place is her neighbor/firefighter, Jack, who is insistent about being helpful, whether she thinks she needs it or not.
As they work on the house, they uncover mysterious notes and items, leading them to believe there is a deeper mystery to uncover about the house.
TheReview
A firefighter romance with a dash of mystery?! Sign me up.
Aurora is an author who thinks she’s peaked and doesn’t want any attachments. Jack is haunted by his past and can’t love. What more could you ask for in a (fictional) relationship story?
While Aurora is reserved and closed off with her emotions, Jack says it like it is. While he also has spent his life in unattached relationships, he has no desire to hide what he thinks. And that just made for an extremely fun dynamic. Aurora isn’t honest with herself and Jack totally calls her out on her lies. It was great.
In comparison to Miles in 100 Lifetimes of Us (The Romantics #1), I liked Jack so much more! I just love his personality, his daddy vibes, and his “tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold” way about himself. And Aurora is an amazing FMC - strong, funny, haunted. Jack’s best friend, Drew, was also a fun side character to add. Willow is the third friend in the friend group, and this book made me excited for hers coming up.
This book hit everything I wanted it to be. It was an amazing storyline, a great relationship dynamic with good side characters, and wonderful writing. It even got me excited for the next book. Maggie Gates killed it with this one.

“You’re not a question mark, curious and unsure. You’re not a comma, taking things slowly. You’re a period. A full stop. You don’t meander. You’re an exclamation point, something explosive and dynamic. There’s nothing mediocre or pensive about you.” - Jack
