A Court of Mist and Fury
A Court of Thorns and Roses #2
By Sarah J. Maas
TheStory
After surviving Under the Mountain and being resurrected as High Fae, Feyre returns to the Spring Court. However, she is utterly haunted by the nightmares and a hollowness deep in her soul, all while dealing with Rhysand as he calls in their bargain.
Realizing that her life in the Spring Court is no longer the dream she thought she wanted, she finds herself within the Night Court - with Rhys and his inner circle.
TheReview
It’s so hard to write a review on this book without giving spoilers, so there are a few small, vague spoilers.
Right off the bat, it was very clear that Feyre was super unhappy. Tamlin wasn’t really helping but he was also dealing with his own demons, so it was understandable. She had to continually relive the horrors from Under the Mountain and was suffering from a deep depression and major anxiety.
TAMLIN! *UGH!* Oh my gooooosh. He was so disgustingly controlling and became borderline abusive. It was disgusting. Feyre started to challenge what she was being told and grew outside of the expectations and role expected of her by Tamlin and the Spring Court.
She started developing powers from the gifts the High Lords accidentally bestowed on her and she met new people to help her along her journey of self-discovery, the main person being Rhysand. While being hunted and attacked by outside forces, they bonded and started to help each other heal from their traumas and their pasts.
The romance in this book was definitely a slow burn (which we love). Feyre and Rhysand were both just trying to figure out what they wanted/needed in their relationship and what their feelings meant in the grand scheme of things (which involved major consequences for their choices).
There wasn’t a lot of spice but the spicy scenes it did have were spiiiiiiiiiicy. The mix of action with the romance was very well handled.
The whole book is a huge page turner - interlacing all the different aspects of fantasy and romance flawlessly. The ending is absolutely wild. Just chills and tears all over the place. It is most definitely a cliff hanger and had me leaping off my couch to go buy the next book.
