Malcolm was the least of our problems! Who knew?
There is so much going on in this book, I feel like I’m definitely going to have to read it twice.
It’s super good and extremely action-packed. Basically the entire universe is going to hell and Saeris and Kingfisher are the only hope to save everyone and everything. But they also have their own personal issues and their relationship to deal with at the same time. God bindings. Magic control. Etc. Etc. It’s a lot but so good. You just have to really pay attention.
Because of everything going on throughout the entirety of multiple realms, Fisher and Saeris often have to split up - which causes us to get the POVs of both of them. I loved that little shift in the writing - getting to see into Kingfisher’s mind a bit.
Just like in Quicksilver, the side characters are a much-needed portion of the storyline. They were all just as kick ass in this book as the previous one. Carrion is hands down my favorite. The way Fisher brought him back in Quicksilver made me think I wasn’t going to like him or that he would be an emotional death. But he grew on me from the moment he woke up in book one all the way through this book.
He should get his own little lover story at some point, just one girl’s opinion.
I also loved Lorreth (so much!) and Te Lena. Also Tal - he is a very dynamic character. There are a few side characters that just seem thrown in for good measure but without a lot to add to the story. But the ones that are involved in the storyline are amazing!
As a side note - the mutated feeders really irked me. They were such a major issue and it really seemed like there was nothing that could defeat them. Between them and the rot spreading, I just did not understand how anything else could be remotely focused on when those things were clearly a major and imminent threat to an entire universe.
In my opinion, if you introduce a universe ending adversary, suddenly nothing else should matter to anyone. Our characters had a lot to deal with, but that seemed like it should have taken precedence over anything else.
The ending?! No. WAY too much of a cliffhanger. I was screaming. I couldn’t believe it cut me off at that. This is why I don’t read unfinished series. I was suckered into this one. Each book for sure SLAYS but this ending has me feeling all kinds of things. So rude.
