House of Sky and Breath

Crescent City #2

By Sarah J. Maas

TheStory

Following the events of the last book, Bryce and Hunt are trying to lay low, getting back to their “normal” lives. So far, the Asteri have left them alone, but with their power being threatened, they have no intention of taking it lying down.

Bryce, Hunt, and their group of friends are pulled into the rebel plans against the Asteri. Since they refuse to stay silent in the face of oppression, the group winds up fighting for their lives and their freedom.

TheReview

I. can’t. even. WITH THIS BOOK. My brain is fried. Just from the last sentence of the last chapter. This part of the story was never spoiled for me before reading, and it was the most insane surprise I’ve ever read. So, of course, I will under no circumstances ruin it for you, dear reader. So let’s get into the events before the mind boggling ending.

The very beginning of this book was also a delightful shock to the system. Why is everything always so awful? Oh, that’s right, because it’s a book and it needs action! Our poor heroes and heroines are just being yanked in every direction, betrayed all over the place, and finding evil at every turn. My recommendation is to get a character guide or have someone who has read this before help you keep everyone straight.

While there are a smorgasbord of characters, it doesn’t detract from the storyline. Most of the characters are important and the ones that aren’t, aren’t necessary to remember anyways.

RUHN! Ruhn’s storyline is everything. Him and Agent Daybright?! I just… I’m in love. While Bryce and Hunt are the main of the main characters, their story took a back seat for me in comparison to my utter obsession with Ruhn.

The ending… Just like House of Earth and Blood, the last 100 pages are a dumpster fire. But it was seriously the very last sentence that had me screaming and screaming and screaming. I can’t even believe how this book ended. I’m dying to read the next one but I had to take a break and give my brain time to calm down.

This book was the most enjoyable, wild ride. Stomach-in-my-throat, heart-in-my-butt, chest-aching, head-burning, crazy, amazing, insanity. If you liked the first one, this one just shifts the focus, adds in more lovable characters, and blows everything you thought you knew about this world to high heavens.
