King of Envy

Kings of Sin #5

By Ana Huang

*Can be read as a standalone*

*Same world as Ana Huang’s Twisted series - recommend reading Twisted prior to Kings of Sin*

TheStory

Ayana has been friends with Jordan for years. When he proposes an agreement to get his family off his case about settling down, Ayana jumps at it, because it will also get her out of her modeling contract with her abusive agency.

As time goes on, she winds up thrown together with his best man, Vuk. Vuk never speaks and seems content to brood every time Ayana is around. As the two are thrown together time and again, their relationship begins to grow.

But Ayana needs this marriage contract to get away from her agency and Vuk is torn between his obsession with Ayana and his loyalty to his best friend.

TheReview

AAAHH!! I was so excited for Vuk’s story. And it did not disappoint.

The whole story was very authentic. Vuk’s involvement in it all. The marriage of convenience even made more sense that a lot of other ones that I’ve read. Given that she and Jordan both only wanted the marriage for logistical reasons, it made sense that she and Vuk would form an attachment without completely feeling like cheaters.

Vuk is amazing. He’s exactly what I thought he would be. Ayana is a deeper and more complex character than I was expecting. Their character development and relationship growth didn’t seem forced at all.

Ugh, but poor Ayana. She is so taken advantage of by her agency. It was sad to see how horribly she was treated.

There is so much mystery surrounding Vuk (obviously) but also a mystery in the present that keeps affecting his life. I like a little interesting mystery to spice up the storyline. Honestly, the unknown events were a big chunk of the storyline, adding to the suspense and making their relationship slow burn so good!

It was so good that I really just wanted to take my time reading it. It is a sloooooow burrrrrrrn. And I honestly could not figure out how the whole relationship between Jordan, Vuk, and Ayana was going to pan out without making someone seem like an absolute tool. Alas, I was pleased.

It was definitely drawn out longer than it potentially needed to be but I found that to make the story so much sweeter. That being said, after the first half, I found myself begging the storyline to move along.

The drama totally drama-ed. It was complex, suspenseful, and intriguing. And the resolutions were so satisfying.

This was a fantastic book. One of the best in the series. The only thing I would say that could be a detriment to its enjoyment is that it is a slow storyline. While I enjoyed that, it’s always good to prepare others for it. Each part takes its sweet time getting to the point. However, I was totally immersed in it, following right alongside the characters. And that type of writing takes some serious skill. Overall, a fantastic read.
