King of Sloth
Kings of Sin #4
By Ana Huang
*Can be read as a standalone*
*Same world as Ana Huang’s Twisted series - recommend reading Twisted prior to Kings of Sin*
TheStory
When a PR crisis results in a bargain between Sloane and Xavier, their relationship takes a sharp turn. After three years of Sloane managing PR for Xavier and his family, Xavier suffers a family crisis.
Now Xavier must change his party-boy ways or risk losing his inheritance. Sloane might be a stubbornly anti-happy-ending bachelorette and Xavier might be a lazy billionaire heir, but while they work together, they discover that they have more in common than they do differences. Of course, that might be the problem.
TheReview
I am obsessed with this story. Let me tell you why…
The banter: amazing
The characters: nuanced
The storyline: captivating
The writing: well-done
Now for the details…
Sloane is a badass and she is icy but obviously has a heart. She has spent her entire life not showing emotions the way “normal” people do. And she has suffered for it. Her whole background and personality has been shaped by the way others perceive her, and she has run with that and made a life that she enjoys, without needing the approval of others.
Xavier is (obviously) lazy - re: the title of the book. But he’s not stupid or dumb like his lifestyle leads people to believe. He just doesn’t want to fail, so he doesn’t even try. If you don’t try, you can’t fail. Sound logic.
They are truly so similar to each other but their similarities manifest differently. Does that make sense? Sloane’s personality has pushed her to work hard and make a life she loves, regardless of circumstance. Xavier has chosen to lay back and let others do the hard work, regardless of what other people think.
We also get great side-characters in the story, which as we all know, rounds out the story beautifully. Specifically, I am obsessed with Pen. She was a phenomenal addition to the story.
The storyline was a bit slow, but I liked it that way. It gave time to build up to an amazing ending.
The writing was amazing for these characters. They might be my favorite in the series so far (barring Vuk, because I think he will be my favorite MMC, but I haven’t read his yet…). Their inner monologues are so beautiful… and so at odds with the words that actually come out of their mouths. It was hilarious to read.
Everything about this book slapped for me. It’s in the running for my top favorite in the series so far. I love a cold queen that’s happy with her single life and a secretly intelligent man who presents a specific way to the world for reasons of his own.
P.S. This book was TOTALLY prepping for Vuk’s story and I CAN’T WAIT. I’m so hyped up.
