King
Alliance #2
By S.J. Tilly
*Can be read as a standalone but should read Nero (The Alliance #1) first*
TheStory
When Savannah brings her boyfriend Lee to a friend’s house for dinner, to Savannah’s surprise, Lee has a wife… and she is at the same dinner. After finding out that Lee was cheating on his sister, the head of The Alliance, King, goes to his apartment to murder him. But his plans of body disposal are ruined when Savannah shows up at the apartment to retrieve her keys.
Rather than silencing Savannah in more gruesome ways, King decides the only logical option is to force her into marriage so she can’t testify against him if anyone comes asking questions. Although the relationship clearly starts out on rocky ground, the animosity lessens as they discover healing, understanding, and the power of love.
TheReview
I am IN LOVE with these two. Savannah is funny and sassy and witty. She is an empowered woman who just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong man. Even while in a prison marriage, she finds ways to assert herself and maintain her independence. For a while…
But of course, King is, well, a KING. So he eventually wears her down. And obviously, he isn’t a total monster. His sweet side shows and we see his desire to just be loved. Even though he is slightly insane.
I didn’t find King to be an extremely deep character. Honestly, I don’t think Savannah was that deep either. But their relationship growth was so fun to see go from a forced marriage to actually caring about each other.
King is a freaky sex fiend in the bedroom and when he discovers that Savannah also has a kinky side… oh boy. The spice in this book is not only plentiful but some of it is down right dirrrrrty. So their relationship had the chemistry and the attraction but it also had the banter, which just solidifies a relationship for me. Makes it so much more enjoyable.
They aren’t as psycho about being together as Nero and Payton but they are waaaaay freakier sexually.
Obviously, the forced marriage is a tad ridiculous but how it all plays out is so freaking funny. Love a controlling, domineering, morally gray (fictional) man. And King, although a bit of a dickwad, really does treat Savannah like a Queen.
I like that, just like Payton with Nero, Savannah embraces King’s darkness. She doesn’t try to change him and he doesn’t try to change her. They support each other in everything they do. Just embracing and loving the best and the darkest parts of one another.
