Beaufort Poker Club #1

By Maggie Gates

*Can be read as a standalone*

TheStory

While in LA for a baking competition, professional baker Maddie meets a handsome stranger named Luke while at the gym. They hit it off and she agrees to go out on one date with him. Their date goes incredibly well, but neither of them actually learns enough about the other person to connect the dots of what they will mean to each other in the future.

Once Maddie arrives at the baking competition, Maddie discovers that “Luke” is actually Luca DiRossi - her nemesis and one of the judges of the competition. As the competition ends, Maddie bolts out of LA, leaving Luca behind, only to come to Beaufort and find that he is the new owner of the restaurant she works at.

TheReview

And the enemies to lovers story begins… YAY!

This book was just a really cute read. Maddie is slightly insane and wild while Luca is a bit of a dual personality. There is his public persona and then the “Luke” that he is with Maddie. He loves her hard and his charm and personality make her want to accept him. Luca gives her the love that she never knew she wanted. But she doesn’t accept it easily.

The “drama” of the third act break up was to be expected. But can we get mad? Don’t we secretly love a little miscommunication trope?

This one gives you a little look into the characters that will pop up throughout the series. Each one is a standalone but each one is about a member of the poker club, all of whom are introduced in this first book.

There isn’t a whole lot to say because it was just a standard, cute love story. The relationship was great to watch develop and it had just the perfect amount of spice (with a dash of dark and dirty thrown in). I’m more excited for the other characters in the series though.
