So, degradation and humiliation kinks are not my yum, at all. But I can hang.
Frankly, this one just made me laugh my absolute butt off. I couldn’t stop cringing and laughing. Guys… The online persona?! STARBOY?! Are we serious? Stop it right now. Was it supposed to be serious? I just couldn’t get over it.
The tension build up was good but it was loooooong and drawn out. I think it took something like ¾ of the book, maybe a little less, for the tension to finally break. I’m all for a slow burn, but it was a little too tension-y without enough pay off.
So, I can only assume that it wasn’t supposed to be funny, but I found it downright hilarious. I just couldn’t take it seriously. But I really enjoyed reading it, it just didn’t give a serious vibe in any way, shape, or form. And I think it was supposed to.
Whatever. I liked it. It made me laugh. I’m conflicted on the point of the storyline, but I found it funny and enjoyable.
***PSA: I will not be reading the fifth book in the series - Malakai’s story. My preferred romance/fantasy stories are MF romances where the male MC is utterly obsessed with the female and vice versa. Kai’s story is about him having been in love with his best friend, Julian, since college. From my understanding, Julian is married and Kai becomes part of that relationship, making it an MMF romance. Again only from what I read about the book, it has a religion kink, which just is not my jam. The rest of the series has been amazing and I’ve liked each storyline, so maybe this one would be good, if you are into those types of stories.
