Fae & Alchemy #1
By Callie Hart
TheStory
Upon accidentally opening the gateway to the realm of the fae, Saeris is thrown into a land she thought to be only a myth.
But she is powerful, potentially the only one who can end the centuries-long conflict between the fae.
After falling into a bargain with Kingfisher, she realizes that he is willing to manipulate and control her in order to save his people. But there are powerful forces at work - beyond what anyone expected.
TheReview
So this book has total ACOTAR vibes - but more mysterious and broodier. It is still so unique to itself though. I was completely lost to this world. It’s a pretty large world and they visit lots of places. It could either be too much world building or not enough depending on your preference.
I am in love with both of the main characters.
Saeris is dope. She’s not useless and powerless. She’s a take-no-crap badass.
Kingfisher is broody but not annoying. He’s just got secrets - both by choice and not by choice - and he doesn’t believe he is good. He’s also actually physically suffering and can’t do anything about it. He’s complex but not like the author was trying too hard.
There isn’t a ton of relationship development in the beginning. Mostly everyone is just getting their bearings and trying to figure things out. Which is to be expected in a series.
It really ramps up just past the halfway point.
And the side characters! Guys!! We have great side characters. And a pet fox. I mean… let’s gooooo. It’s gonna be a good series.
I loved every minute of this book. It was beautifully written and the storyline was fantastic. It was so hyped up and I must say… what an appropriate hyping it was. I totally fell into the world and I loved every part of it. Now… excuse me while I go punch myself for starting an unfinished series.
