Dark Harmony

The Bargainer #4

By Laura Thalassa

TheStory

After drinking Lilac wine and now adapting to her fae magic, Callie is now vulnerable to the Thief of Souls - the nightmare (figuratively and literally) that has been haunting her, Des, and their kingdom.

Alongside the Thief of Souls, Des’ father is back from the dead and seeking vengeance. Callie and Des are trying to remain in as normal of a state as possible, but also must fight their worst nightmares threatening to tear them apart.

TheReview

Basically, this whole book can be summed up in torment, literal nightmares, and monsters. Between the Thief of Souls and Des’ dad, Callie and Des are just always fighting for their lives. But the Thief specifically is so annoying. He visited her in her dreams constantly and toys with her. Des was helpless. Plans were foiled.

It’s just sooooo “dramatic.” It felt like it was trying to so hard to show strife for the MCs that there wasn’t a linear progression of the storyline.

Callie did come into her own power, which is dope to see since she was always suppressing it. Des had a few tricks up his sleeve that were entertaining to see play out. But ultimately, the story was just lackluster for me. I enjoyed reading it and the series had a satisfying conclusion but it was just meh

Somehow, the best part of this book was actually the other books, because the ending served to conclude the series. I only liked it based on the first two (see previous review for how much I despised book three). As a whole, the series just devolved from the first one. I’ll probably forget everything about this book but at least it tied the series up in a bow.
