TheStory

Pestilence comes as the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. When he comes to Sara’s town, she tries to stop him by shooting him off his horse… but, of course, he can’t be killed.

Since she pissed him off, he takes her prisoner, fully intent on torturing the bajesus out of her and making an example of her to others.

But the horseman is not as unemotional as one might believe. So as time goes on, feelings emerge and the course of the end of the world might be forever altered.

TheReview

First, calm any worries about an overly religious aspect. Regardless of the series title, the “religious” aspect is more of an inspiration than the purpose of the story. You know those books that are themed around Greek mythology? This is similar to that type of inspo. But, the focus is mainly on Pestilence as a horseman of the apocalypse and his relationship development with Sara.

This was a fantastic read. It is OBVIOUSLY enemies to lovers with a slow burn because Pestilence is there to destroy the world and Sara lives in the world… so, duh.

The ending didn’t really strike as an HEA because there are still three other horsemen coming, but Sara and Pestilence’s ending was cute. It was satisfying but I really wanted to know what was going to happen with War, so it wasn’t really a one and done even though each book can technically be read as a standalone.

As a side note, I read Pestilence’s dialogue in my head as very monotone, so it made it sound hilarious in my head. I pictured him completely stone-faced and deadly serious.

On the other hand, Sara is slightly irritating in her demeanor but it works with Pestilence’s attitude (or lack thereof). A bit of grumpy-sunshine vibes.

Overall it was a really good read. It had angst, laughs, romance, and a very interesting storyline. A horseman of the apocalypse falls for a human living in the world he is set to destroy? That storyline had so much potential, and Laura Thalassa took that potential, ran with it, and fully delivered.
