Never After #3

By Emily McIntire

*Can be read as a standalone*

*A Wizard of Oz fractured fairytale*

TheStory

After a bar hookup, DEA agent Nick ends up working undercover on a case seeking to bring down none other than Evelina, the girl from the bar. While Evelina creates the Flying Monkey drug for her father, Nick falls into bed (or table, technically) with her.

Unable to stomach the thought of turning her in, Nick struggles with duty and heart.

TheReview

I’m never a fan of a bar hook up turned obsession because… that’s debatable. But besides that annoying little start, it’s gold.

The focus is heavily on their relationship rather than the situation they’re in with the drugs and her father. Which provides more insight into why they are the way they are. The struggles they’re facing to even be together. They hate each other but also can’t stay away.

At one point, I literally forgot that he was lying about who he was. I was so focused on what was happening between the two of them. Which is impressive. It’s hard to pull someone into a story like that. The moment when she says his fake name, he gets all sad that she doesn’t know who she is and suddenly I did, too.

The… intimate scenes… are fairly quick and non descriptive in comparison to the other books. It focuses a lot more on their relationship and what is going on in their heads. But obviously they are physically obsessed with each other so it’s in there.

I was WAY excited for this book and the storyline. And it was SO GOOD. But not as hypey as I made it in my head. Just a good read and a good storyline that kept me generally hooked. Better than Scarred by far but still not as good as Hooked.
