The dynamics between the three main characters is so interesting. It’s not a love triangle but like a love-like-hate triangle. Very tension-y. 

I’m really not sure I buy Kitt being totally fine with Kai and Pae always being alone but okay. Also, we need the romance! So what’s an author to do?! 

The second trial in the Shallows is where the action really ramps up and stays fairly heightened.

The love Kai and Pae have for each other remains throughout the whole book. But since they can’t be together, it is so heartbreaking while at the same time being so sweet and loving. 

We get Edric’s story from way back when, which, about 3/4 of the way through, makes everything click into place. And then it’s just *clickclickclickclickclick* for the rest of the book. It was totally mind boggling. It was the perfect mystery, answers, action, and love throughout the whole book. 

This book - and the whole series - makes my top favorite of all time. It is YA so there’s no spicy bits but the devotion, love, and adoration is so sweet. It just made me fall absolutely in love with Kai and Pae. I haven’t wanted to BE an FMC in a while. But I want to be Pae. And I want to live in this world forever.
