Pretty Things on Shelves
By Maggie Gates
TheStory
When Blair ends up in the hospital from an allergic reaction, the hospital calls her ex-husband Caleb. Whoops! She forgot to change her emergency contact. The two were raised in a high control environment (basically a cult) and once they ventured out on their own, realized that they were never prepared for a wedding, much less a marriage.
Now, they have grown and learned from their mistakes and learned how to live their lives the way they want. Now, they have to decide if they are willing and able to put in the work into a real relationship.
TheReview
This book was never in my plans to read because second chance romances are in my lest favorite of all tropes. Alas, a friend convinced me otherwise. And I’m so glad she did.
Coming from a freaking cult! obviously their relationship was set up for failure. They never learned how to be partners! Watching them reconnect with themselves and each other was beautiful. But it was also the fact that no one else in their lives could possibly understand what they went through, like the two of them can. Watching them take control and still choose each other was something amazing - now that they actually had a choice in the matter.
Oh, and the people coming from their past? The perfect catalyst to push the two characters together and force them into decision-making mode. It was just heartwarming to see them choose each other over and over again.
This was such a unique story and it was wonderful to read. Even if you don’t normally do second-chance romance, I’d recommend it (give it a chance 😉). I was a fan.
