Kage, second to the head boss of the Russian mafia, targets Nat over a debt owed by her missing fiance. But once she is in his sights, everything changes. The target becomes the protected and all the roles go out the window. 

The main issue here - Nat doesn’t know she ever was a target or anything about the truth surrounding Kage, her missing fiance, or her role in the underworld.

This book gets 3 stars from me for two (and a half) reasons only.

It was hilarious. I LIVE for banter among MCs (even though it was a little too much for my taste).

The last 1/4 was great, once all the lies came out.

And Nat’s bestie Sloane is half a reason because I loved her but she wasn’t in it all the time.

And those are the main highlights here. 

Number one question racking my brain the whole book - why is Kage SO obsessed with Nat right off the bat? Because she’s hot? Or innocent? Seems far-fetched but alright, I guess. I’m just confused. He immediately needs her, can’t live without her, must have her but there’s not really a reason given as to why.

On that note, if you want a “sort of reason” read the prequel epilogue thing (the very last chapter) first, or after the first few chapters. 

I like Nat’s storyline but Kage just seems weird. The third time he talks to her, he’s extremely explicit about what he wants to do to her sexually and demands her trust. And after a brief denial, Nat just goes all in?

There just wasn’t any depth to the story. It seemed really out of the blue. 

Overall the book struck me as (1) sex and (2) banter, both with a minimal storyline. But it does get really good towards the end. I loved the last quarter or so of the book but the rest was really mediocre.
