Everyone has been cursed, or imprisoned, or trapped, or dead, or fleeing, or powerless… you get the point.

Following the disaster that was the battle in Book 7, everything is awful right off the bat. Obviously.

Some of our heroes are dead, some are imprisoned or trapped. Our Rebels are on the run. And there is no hope for anyone. So let’s see where it goes.

Everyone is being totally screwed by the stars and MAAAAN, that is the bulk of this book. Everything is just totally effed. That could basically be the whole review.

But the Rebels do get a little reprieve on their island, which was such a good idea that I did not see coming.

While there is lots of despair and awfulness, I fully believe that this series will have an HEA. So I choose to believe it’s all happening for a reason and preparing us for the dopeness that has BETTER be book 9

But good Lord, this book took me a long time to get through. It shifted to so many different perspectives and truly my only source of comfort was Seth and Caleb, who also made me want to tear my hair out.

It’s really an ebb and flow. Some of it was “can’t put down” and some of it was “how do I keep reading.”

Everything comes to a head about 20% from the end. And that last 20% is really good.

It was just a tough book to get through. But at least there was SOME satisfaction for our heroes. But also more CRAP HIT THE FAN.

Definitely on my lowest ranked of the series but the series is still one of my favorites so I’m conflicted. I just had a tough time getting through it but am hoping it’s worth it for book 9.
