TheReview
Okay! I have many complaints about this book because it quite figuratively ripped my heart right out of my chest. Stomped on it. Then crushed it into a million pieces. Only to attempt to piece it back together. And then rip it to shreds all over again.
Hello, Nicholas Sparks fans - this book is for you.
It’s hard to review the book without spoilers but I will pre-warn any readers. This is NOT a light-hearted love story. Nor is it an easy book to get through.
I wish I had been warned that while the in between is filled with love and laughs, the beginning immediately stomps on your heart and the end really tugs the heartstrings. This is 100% a heart-wrenching, soul-crushing romance. I was extremely ill prepared when I started listening on my drive to work.
Obviously Beckett is the dream man written by a woman. And Ella is the classic “trust-no-man” woman (while potentially being a little ridiculous and repetitive).
But oh. my. gosh. I haven’t been this emotionally invested in a story in a long time. Good Lord.
I’m not even a contemporary romance aficionado but this book was a killer. It may be partially because I’m a mom myself but this book will haunt me. It will live on in my dreams (slash nightmares). I will certainly never read it again unless I want to torture my emotions but damn… I loved every second of it.
