Men of Inked: Heatwave #13

By Chelle Bliss

Reading Order Timeline for the three Men of Inked Series:

  1. Men of Inked (original)

  2. Men of Inked: Southside (Chicago)

  3. Men of Inked: Heatwave (the second generation)

*Can be read as a standalone*

TheStory

Olive has always had a crush on Asher but never acted on it, preferring to live a quiet, safe life in the world of books. Asher had never thought of Olive in that way, so when she moved away ten years ago, their friendship faded.

Upon Olive’s return to town, she and Asher run into each other. As they reconnect, friendship quickly turns into something more. But when Asher’s cousin, Tate, gets into a bind and needs a place to hide, they end up in a life-or-death situation that no one was expecting.

TheReview

I repeat from the last book (and several others in this series), the intro of the characters are just getting downright lazy. I understand the need to start somewhere but these last two books have just been… BAM!... now we’re obsessed with each other. You survived ten years apart. Everyone just calm down. Really though. Is this series so big that they are just slapping together the beginnings now, with no sense of reason? I don’t get it.

Also, is everyone just in love with Olive out of nowhere? Because they knew her ten years ago? Suddenly, everyone thinks she’s made for him. There is not and will never be anyone better. “Lock it down, now.” I’m sorry, but no. Okay, rant over.

Now, Tate is really the catalyst for the drama part. She’s on the run and hiding with Olive and Asher while the family takes care of it. So there isn’t a lot of relationship drama involving the actual MCs.

But onto the best part - Asher and Olive.

I do love a controlling man with a girl who takes no shit. They are cute together. Olive’s unsureness about Asher’s intentions and ability to be monogamous are totally valid. So watching them overcome that insecurity was a great part of this read. Like, Olive isn’t a moron. They are both so cute and loving with each other.

On the note of being “cute,” there is next to no spice in this book.

This one could be a standalone but it would seem even more random than it already does if you haven’t read the other books in the series. It’s cute and sweet, no real spice, pretty random, but the love story was cute if you can get past the randomness of it all.
