In the previous book, What Heals Us, Beth Hale got pregnant and the baby daddy lost his ever loving mind on her. Now that she unexpectedly went into labor with Shane Hutchins having to deliver her baby, she is suffering through postpartum depression. 

When Shane steps up to help Beth with her baby and her struggles, he also comes to terms with his own inner demons. While the two of them have their issues, they are also seeking understanding and love within one another.

No synopsis can even begin to explain the depth of this book. Nothing is better than an author writing from her own experience. Every little detail and scene is carefully and beautifully written. You don’t even have to try to get sucked into their world - Maggie Gates put you right in it. 

Be warned, though. Maggie Gates puts a disclaimer in the beginning of the book. This is an intense story that goes very deep into the struggles of postpartum depression, suicidal thoughts, and PTSD. It is not a lighthearted read. 

That being said, this book was such a sweet and healing story about love and hurting. Now, I’m a bit biased because I’m a mom but it really hit me in my little mommy heart. I’m not normally a fan of a single mom romance but this one was deeply, tragically moving. 

Besides Shane being absolute daddy, he makes the perfect partner for Beth. He has faced his own demons and come out on the other side stronger for it. It’s adorable because he wanted her before she was ever pregnant and still loved her through all her struggles - pregnancy, birth, mommyhood, and depression. He was definitely and clearly written by a woman, though. ;)

As I said, this book requires the right headspace but if you are ready… read it. It is glorious and wonderful. A beautiful love story.
