By DJ Krimmer
~ Can be read as a standalone ~
TheStory
When Stevie posts a viral video about the uglier side of the piercing world, the backlash she receives turns into real threats. Hel’s Ink bodyguard Brooks takes it upon himself to become Stevie’s unofficial personal guard, protecting her from the online threats and her ex-mentor. While reluctant at first, Stevie eventually agrees after a scare causes her to second guess her living situation.
TheReview
Honestly, I must say that this book was disappointing after the last three books in the series.
I just could not get into it. The first half is so boring. I don’t know exactly what it was, but I just couldn’t get into it. There was a decent amount of drama but I just don’t think it was written well.
Their relationship was decent but it didn’t slap whatsoever for me.
Stevie is kind of stupid. She posts something online that gets a ton of hate and then she just rolls with it? Doing more to make her situation even more precarious? Come on…
Brooks is so completely obsessed with her and I just couldn’t really figure out why. It was instant (which fine, I get the trope here) but given his background and his job, I don’t buy that he wasn’t put off by her stupidity and utter lack of care for her own safety. It lacked depth and heart. I guess I was just expecting more since Atlas, Ash, and Derek were so fire. This one was dull.
I don’t really know what else to say except that it is a three star read simply because it was decent (I actually enjoyed the second half) but it wasn’t great and it wasn’t very exciting. Having to read through 50% of a book to get to anything good means that it wasn’t written very well.
