TheStory
Aida is forced to marry Callum after accidentally setting his house on fire. Rather than endure an all out war, their fathers, head of the Italian Mafia and the head of the Irish Mob, decide that their children will marry and create an alliance instead.
While the marriage benefits both families, Aida and Callum are vehemently opposed to the arrangement due to… well, hating each other. In the grander scheme of things, the arranged marriage pisses off the Polish Braterstwo.
Aida and Callum reluctantly agree but in spirit only. They have no intention of actually giving up their hatred for one another. Neither of them will submit to the other, so it’s a battle of wills to see who has the strongest resolve.
TheReview
This book was so good, I got to 70% without even realizing it. It was a fast read but it flowed so well, the ending just really snuck up on me.
Throughout almost the entire book, Aida and Callum’s relationship is very specific. Without spoilers, let’s just say that it doesn't read like a normal arranged-marriage-turned-lovers. It was unique, which made it all the more pleasurable to read.
Aida and Callum’s little tit-for-tat back-and-forth was so hilarious to read. It wasn’t just little pranks but full-scale retribution to each other. At one point, each one of them almost died from the stunts they were pulling on each other. Specifically, Aida’s stunt on their wedding day had me rolling.
Callum was a legit monster. But it sooooo worked for him. Aida is a really strong-willed, feisty FMC. Callum tried to make Aida bend the knee while she simultaneously did the exact opposite of anything he said or commanded. So great.
And when they aren’t trying to seriously harm each other? Their tension explodes deliciously. Their chemistry was off the charts.
The ending had some really good drama but it felt a little rushed. Although, that could be because I was still fully invested in the book and didn’t realize the ending was even coming. It seemed like one moment they were passionately hating each other and then, all of the sudden, their feelings for each other were the central theme in their relationship. But, take that with a grin of salt since I didn’t even know the book was coming to an end.
Shows how much I paid attention.
I loved this book. So glad I started the series. I consumed the entire thing in one day. It was a fast read for me but that could be because I was so invested in the characters that I just devoured them as quickly as possible. Now, that’s good writing.
