TheStory
When Riona’s life is threatened, Dante tasks his friend Raylan with protecting her. Against her wishes, Raylan becomes Riona’s unofficial bodyguard. When her would-be killer continues his relentless pursuit, Raylan takes Riona to his family farm across state lines, where she can be completely off the radar.
Initially irate and unsure, Riona falls into a comfortable existence on the ranch with Raylan and his family. But the threat hasn’t disappeared, no matter how much life has changed. Raylan will have to use everything in his arsenal to not only protect Riona but also to break down her walls, if he wants a chance at a life with her.
TheReview
Immediately, this story hooked me. It’s a great storyline - classic but with a twist.
Essentially, it’s a bodyguard romance but we throw in a little southern charm and a ranch? What more could a romance girlie ask for? And Raylan’s military background? Yum!
Riona is a no-nonsense lawyer, determined to win over the law firm where she works and become a partner. Raylan is a southern rancher turned military/militia. Obviously, they are super different, but ultimately, they are so perfect for each other. I wasn’t expecting to like Riona for Raylan but her character was so well-written and ended up working really well with Raylan’s character.
I loved their time together on the ranch, especially knowing that it wouldn’t last forever. It made it so special and sweet. It was the perfect setting for Riona to get out of her own head and learn to be uncomfortable in her own skin, rather than always being put together.
I truly didn’t know how they were going to work out their different lifestyles and commitments to those around them. Their goals in life were so opposing to one another but alas, it is an HEA so the author found a way. I was pleasantly surprised by how all the events flowed together and turned out in the end.
The book had a great flow and just enough drama thrown into the romance to make it exciting but still sweet. It’s a great read for a classic, light romance with some twists to keep it interesting and great characters to help you fall in love.
