Now head of the Polish Braterstwo, Miko kidnaps Nessa as revenge for his father being murdered by her family, the Italian Mafia. Due to the marriage alliance between the Italian Mafia and the Irish Mob, Miko and the Braterstwo are suffering. In order to tear down the alliance built by marriage, Miko allies with the Russian Bratva, planning to make Nessa the linchpin in taking them all down.

But Nessa isn’t as disgustingly innocent as Miko originally thought. She starts to worm her way under his skin with her multi-faceted personality. When Miko can no longer stomach following through with his original plan, how will all the families reconcile the betrayals and how will Nessa survive to see how it all plays out?

Total Beauty and the Beast Vibes. Light vibes. But still vibes. It’s not a retelling of the classic fairytale but there are clear connections between this story and the age-old classic.

Nessa was sweet and innocent but she wasn’t stupid. She was smart and beguiling. She had been sheltered her whole life but she knew how the world works. Initially, Miko was disgusted by her naivete, but as he came to learn more about her, he became just entranced by how dynamic she was and how her growth happened.

Miko was an honest to goodness monster. He didn’t even have the tiniest hint of a soft side in the beginning. But as the story went on, his character developed solidly and consistently. I’m in love with him. He might be one of my new book boyfriends.

Normally, I don’t care for a cinnamon roll FMC but Nessa was an exception for me. I liked her a lot. She’s soft but not annoyingly so. It worked to melt something in Miko and it prepared for his growth as well as her own. They were completely different people in the beginning as opposed to the end. Rather than either one of them dragging the other person into change, they both changed for the better by meeting in the grey area between the black and white.

Obviously, I’m obsessed with these two. I loved reading their story and watching how much they grew and evolved.
