Also known as the Killer by those that summon him, Leon has been under the control of the Hadleigh’s for over a century. After tasking Leon with kidnapping Raelynn Lawson for a sacrifice, the Hadleigh’s lose their ability to summon him - and therefore command him.
Leon is free and clear until Rae accidentally summons him and the two form a connection. When the Hadleigh’s God sends his minions after Rae, Leon offers her a bargain - offer her soul to him and he will protect her from the evil following her. Rae refuses the bargain but their story is far from over.

Rae originally runs into Leon on campus, while he is still under the control of the Hadleigh’s. It’s less of a meet-cute and more of a meet-rude. 😉 He is such a butthole for the whole beginning of their relationship. But his snark and wit made me laugh. I loved him immediately.
On the other hand, Rae is wary of him but still intrigued by the fear he spikes in her.
It took a while to get into the storyline. It’s a longer book, so it was just some character and world building that was necessary but a little boring. It took about eight or so chapter to really get invested. After chapter 15, it was SO worth the wait. Things really pick up after Rae summons Leon.
And the BANTER! I am a banter fiend until the day I die. It’s difficult to write it well but when the author knows what they are dong - AAAHH! And Laroux knew what she was doing. The very beginning was a little cheesy but then… it got so good. Laugh out loud hilarious.
Rae is kind of a moron but only in the sense that a character has to be a little stupid to be into a demon and be turned on by fear.
There were parts of this book that were downright terrifying. Honestly. I thought I would have nightmares. I love creepy crap but this one had some heebie-jeebie inducing moments. Which is how you know it was good. For a writer to make your heart race, make you want to close your eyes, and straight up freak you out… that’s talent. It was extremely well written and gave me all the feels.
